4Minute has enemies

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

How else would you explain what happened?

4Minute’s parked van was damaged and their belongings inside were stolen.

The incident occurred on the morning of June 21st, near the girls practice center in Cheongdam-dong. The rear window was smashed and a video camera and stage clothes were taken out of the vehicle.

Who would do such a thing?

Only 1 week since their debut, 4minutes has been a “hot issue” with fingers pointing at their copycat style with YG’s 2NE1. So there must be some angry netizens/rivals….who could it be? Was this intentional or just random?

Wondergirl Ye-eun cheers on an emotional Hyun-ah

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

It’s sweet to know that they still support one another.

4minute debuted with a lot of fan support and “controversy,” but they are steadily raising through the ranks. After their debut stage on Mnet M!Countdown, it has been reported that immediately coming off the stage ex-Wondergirl Hyun-ah got a little emotional and shed some tears. A Cube Entertainment representative stated, “It has been a long time since she last stood on the stage to perform. She was touched. She finds it a pity that she didn’t give a better performance since this is her comeback stage.”

Cube also went on to say about the whole group in general, “Right now they are just starting. In the future, they will make more appearances. We hope everyone continues watching over them and giving them interest and love.”

4minute also had their second stage last night on KBS Music Bank. Although they are still a little shaky, Hyun-ah seems to have improved, or I just might be getting used to her new image. When she was a part of the Wondergirls, her image was closer to what 4minute’s Ji-yoon claims now as the charismatic rapper, while Hyun-ah’s current role in 4minute is the eye candy diva. Check out their performance, hit or miss?

Following 4minute’s second performance, Wondergirl Ye-eun sent her love to her dongsang through her Cyworld. The Wondergirls may be busy in America, rehearsing for the Jonas Brothers concert tour, but Ye-eun took the time to be a good unni. The post looks absolutely frivolous with all the little miscellaneous, cutesy graphics, but the message is quite sentimental and sweet.

Two years ago.
You were someone who had more fun than anyone
Someone with more tears & laughter
Someone who was on stage to overwhelm spectators
Someone who was once our youngest child

You are now 18 years old
You are on stage again, cooler & prouder than anyone else
Said by someone who known you for two years.

The pain & tears hung on.
Not being on stage for a while now,
People are worried for any injuries.

Many have mixed feelings before,
But I want to give you a big applause.

Hyun-ah,
The first broadcast & the second broadcast, they were so good!
I’m in America right now (New York, not anywhere else!)
My cellphone broke & I threw it away
So I can’t give you a proper congratulations
You are one cool person
And I will be looking forward for a cool performance in the future.

I love you.

4minute’s new MV is a “Hot Issue”

Friday, June 19th, 2009

4minute_20090618

A lot of fuss over some flashy lights and colorfully dressed girls.

4minute had their debut stage before the release of their music video, which probably wasn’t the best idea because now that we’ve already seen their lackluster performance, the MV doesn’t really place anything exciting on the table. The MV just consists of the girls dancing in different outfits on different sparkly lit stages, as well as a lot of primping. If you don’t understand Korean, let me just tell you the lyrics follow the same trend as songs like Wondergirl’s “So Hot” and Kara’s “Pretty Girl,” which basically just means it’s a song about how super fly and pretty they think they are. There’s a lot of narcissism in this “candy funky” track.

That aside, check out 4minute’s “Hot Issue” MV.

Mnet M!Countdown performances

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Did it live up to the hype?

June 18th was a much anticipated date for the modest music program Mnet M!Countdown. The program may not have the best equipment and isn’t equipped with HD capabilities, but they tried to make up for it with the hot roster last night.

Let’s start with veteran girl group, Jewelry. Their official comeback is scheduled for August, but Jewelry wanted a piece of the hot summer action. For this special stage, the ladies sang their song, “Rally,” which is the theme song for the Mnet reality talent competition, “Superstar K.” Just got to say, I’m glad this isn’t their comeback song. Although it’s fast tempo and catchy, “Rally” isn’t hit material, and the constant repetition of the word “Rally” by their rapper Ha Joo-yeon (Baby J) in her gruff, gangsta can’t-pronounce-real-English-words-correctly voice really kills it for me. Guest rapper Nassun is a nice addition, and it’s always a surprise that he can look normal, since the image of him in Lee Hyori’s “U-Go-Girl” is forever imprinted in my mind.

Sans pants, Lady GaGa sang her hit song, “Just Dance.” For a song called “Just Dance,” she doesn’t do very much and she is a tad stiff, but looking at some of her previous performances, that’s the original choreography. Dancing aside, Lady GaGa actually seems like she is happy to be there and her vocals, as always, are top-notch. She obviously has a lot of crazed fans in Korea because the energy was high and you can spot some fanboys in the front row.

New girl group, 4minute, had their debut stage with “Hot Issue.” Ex-Wondergirl Hyun-ah really brought the performance down. She can’t bring it like she used to. She finally has time to shine as the centerpiece of 4minute, but the best she can offer us is her whiny, high-pitched rapping voice and flimsy dancing. Despite efforts to constantly shove Hyun-ah down our throats, the rest of the girls were pretty good. The one that really impressed me was Ji-yoon. She has all the attitude and charisma that Hyun-ah should have brought to the stage.

Then we have current fan favorite, 2NE1. This is their first performance on M!Countdown, and the girls brought it as always. The stage design is modeled after the Street version of “Fire,” which is a pretty good idea because it’s more visually appealing to fill up a confined space than lack something on a big empty stage.

Learn to recognize the 4Minuite girls

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

4minute1_20090616

I know, it can be hard if they all go to the same plastic surgeon.

With the raising popularity of new girl group 4minute, one can’t help but take notice of these girls. I know I’ve had trouble telling them apart, mostly because I didn’t care about them. Now since they are becoming such a “hot issue,” it would be good if one can recognize who is who. So I took the liberty of labeling 4minute’s sponsor photos for Colonize, a popular Korean clothing brand that has been accused of plagiarizing their style from WrongWroks, a Canadian-based international street wear brand. Kinda like how 4minute is accused of jocking their style from 2NE1 and After School? 4minute and Colonize were made for each other.

4minute_20090616

Ji-yoon is easy to spot because she is the only one rocking a short cut. Rapper and ex-Wondergirl Hyun-ah has red hair. Ga-yoon has light brown hair. Now when we get to Ji-hyun and So-hyun, it gets a little hard because they both have long wavy black locks and their face shape is quite similar, but So-hyun seems to have higher cheekbones and bigger eyes compared to leader Ji-hyun.

Pointless? Yes, but helpful.
